Elos Hair Reduction FAQ’s

Who is suitable for Elos hair removal treatment?

Anyone seeking a long-term solution to shaving, waxing, plucking, electrolysis or ingrown hairs. There are a few medical conditions that prevent people from being able to be treated, these are discussed during consultation.

How does the Elos technology get rid of hair?

Gentle light and electric energies combine to damage the hair follicle. This disables the follicle from growing hair, which means that gradually over several treatments, there is a long-term reduction in the amount of hair in that area.

What kind of results can be expected from Elos hair removal treatment?

Each treatment will result in less hair coming back, as well as hair growing progressively lighter in colour, becoming finer and also slowing regrowth. It takes more than one treatment to affect all the follicles growing in an area. Most people achieve satisfactory clearance after 4-8 treatments, however, individual results vary depending on medical and genetic factors. Lighter coloured hair may require more treatments than darker coloured hair.

In a study which included skin types II-V showed 35-42% clearance 3 months after a single treatment. Post treatment hair extrusion occurs around 2-3 weeks. Some hair shafts can be pulled out of the follicle immediately post-treatment without resistance, indicating disengagement from the follicle while the hair shaft is still intact (i.e. has not been singed by the laser heat)- the bi-polar RF energy effect is clearly evident.

How frequently do hair removal treatments with Elos technology need to be performed?

Most people achieve satisfactory clearance after 4-8 treatments, which are usually performed every 1-2 months. This depends on individual factors that will be discussed during your consultation.

What happens after each Elos hair reduction treatment?

Temporary pinkness in the skin lasts a very short time and most people return to work and normal activities immediately after treatment. The treated area will ‘shed’ some hairs over the next 3-4 weeks and there may be a short period of irregular hairlessness in the area until the conclusion of treatments.

How does hair reduction with Elos technology feel?

Elos technology is relatively painless in comparison to most hair reduction techniques. The sensation is often described as a ‘snapping’ feeling, much like the flick of a rubber band. The sensation only lasts for a fraction of a second and warmth and/or a tingling sensation is experienced for a short time afterward. Most people tolerate treatment without any topical anesthetic, but individuals who are more sensitive may prefer to have their skin numbed before treatment.

Is the treatment safe?

Treatment is very safe for the skin. There are many advances in the technology that make Elos one of the safest hair reduction systems available for all skin colours. There are no long term health hazards from laser or electric energies used in Elos. Both optical and radio frequency have been used for decades in medicine, surgery, and aesthetics without adversity.
