Waxing
What is Waxing?
Waxing involves the removal of all or some of the hair on particular regions of the body, including the hair from underarms, legs, lips, eyebrows, bikini line and much more.
What is Brazilian Waxing (XXX)?
Brazilian Waxing (XXX) is solely the removal or all or some of the hair from the pubic area. Some people prefer all the pubic hair removed and others prefer to leave an individually determined strip or triangle on the pubic bone at the front.
What to expect during your waxing?
The area to be waxed is exposed, we clipper the hair if necessary and then clean and disinfect the area. A warm wax, intended exclusively for the most sensitive areas, is applied in manageable sections to the area, using a disposable wooden applicator and disposable gloves. Small patches of hair are removed, with extreme care. Afterwards we apply a soothing aftercare lotion, which helps to soothe the area and remove any remaining bits of wax. Every time the wax in reapplied a fresh wooden applicator is used to ensure the utmost care is taken to be hygienic.
Will it be painful?
The first treatment can often be painful, particularly if you have been shaving. This is because shaving has enlarged the bulb at the base of the hair shaft. Remember that the hair grows, rest, and then grows again, so it takes about 12 weeks for shaven hair to be replaced with natural hair; therefore it takes two or three waxes before you “settle in” to natural hair growth. After this time you will experience only minimal discomfort from waxing.
How long does the procedure take?
Depending on what area of the body you are having waxed, sessions could range from 15-30 minutes, taking into consideration also the hair growth and the clients comfort level during the waxing. We move at the pace of the client, so you will always feel comfortable.
When do I need to book in for my next wax?
Most clients will normally book again in around 4-5 weeks time, depending on their hair re-growth rate. Most clients will notice little or no re-growth in the first couple of weeks, and then growth will increase in the third and fourth week. With regular waxing, the time between visits will increase, as the hair growth slows dramatically over time.
What kinds of people are coming in to have waxing?
Everyone! Beauty options should not be classed as a luxury item and geared towards the upper class or to the ladies in particular. Everyone wants to feel beautiful, regardless of whom they are. Everyone should experience the feeling of smooth, hair-free skin after waxing.
Please Note – Some people have strong hair and sensitive skin, which can make for a painful experience. Others don’t even wince during their wax. On the whole most people are pleasantly surprised to see that it’s really not that bad and the results are well worth the effort.
After Treatment Advice – Waxing
SPOTTING OF THE SKIN: This indicates that the hairs have been removed from the follicle this is quite normal after waxing. These red spots may stay on the skin for a short period of time but will soon fade away.
SENSITIVE SKIN: Apply an ice-cold compress two or three times after your waxing appointment; this takes away the sting and reduces redness. Do not apply deodorant until the day after waxing underarms.
FACIAL WAXING: If after leaving the salon the skin may still be red, wrap an ice-cube in a wet cloth and apply it to the waxed areas. You should do this 5 or 6 times at one hour intervals; this reduces the redness of the skin. Avoid clogging the pores with moisturisers or make-up for at least 12 hours. After your first lip wax you may develop some whiteheads in the waxed area; this seldom reoccurs with subsequent waxing.
AFTER YOUR WAXING APPOINTMENT, BEWARE OF EXPOSURE TO CHLORINATED WATER AND THE SUN (including infa-red lamps or solariums). Your skin, already sensitised, may sunburn more easily. Conversely you should not receive a waxing treatment if your skin is sun burnt.
SOME PEOPLE ARE SUBJECT TO IN-GROWN HAIRS AFTER WAXING: As the hair is out of the follicle for many weeks after waxing, dead skin cells can form over the mouth of the follicle, causing the hair to grow under the skin when it appears. To prevent in-grown hairs you may use an exfoliating glove or some of our various lotions which help to reduce in-grown hairs.
SOME PEOPLE EXPERIENCE ITCHINESS AFTER WAXING: If itchiness occurs a day or so after waxing you should follow-up with a cold compress at home. Itchiness 2 or 3 weeks after waxing is caused by the new hair breaking through the mouth of the follicle. Only people with coarse hair who have been shaving over a long period of time are subject to this problem and it usually occurs only after the first few waxing treatments. Regular exfoliating of the skin to prevent the dead skin cells clogging the mouth of the follicle is the answer. Use of an anti-histamine cream may be used to relieve itching.
BEFORE YOUR NEXT APPOINTMENT: Do not use self-tanning lotions or moisturizing creams, particularly on your legs, on the day of your appointment as these form an oily barrier which inhibits the grip of the wax.
ADDITIONAL ADVICE: Coarse and/or curly hair can create skin problems after waxing because the bacteria on the skin may enter these wider hair follicle entrances and cause a rash of whiteheads. This reaction applies particularly to chest and back areas. For the first 3 or 4 days after waxing please shower immediately after vigorous exercise and use an exfoliating glove to help clear the follicles of perspiration and dead skin cells. Application of an antiseptic healing cream on the waxed area is also recommended.
